Job Description : Senior Technical Designer/Pattern-maker

Reports to : Technical Design Manager

Job Summary

The Senior Technical Designer/Patternmaker leads the Technical Department, which includes Samplemakers, Tactical & Fashion Technical Designers, and the Creative Technical Design Assistant, at our cut-and-sew manufacturing facility. This role is pivotal in bridging design and production, overseeing the creation of technical specifications, patterns, and samples to ensure all products meet quality standards and production timelines. The Technical Design Manager drives collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence within the department while ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership

  • Lead and manage the Technical Department, including mentoring and guiding Sample-makers, Tactical & Fashion Technical Designers, and the Creative Technical Design Assistant.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, ensuring seamless communication and alignment across all roles.

Product Development

  • Oversee the technical design process from concept to production, ensuring accurate technical specifications, pattern creation, and sample development.
  • Review and approve all tech packs, ensuring they meet production and quality standards.

Quality Assurance

  • Establish and enforce rigorous quality standards across all product stages.
  • Conduct regular inspections and evaluations to ensure alignment with specifications and compliance requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with executive leadership, including sales, production, and quality control departments to ensure products align with creative goals, operational capabilities, and client expectations.
  • Partner with the Quality Control team for first-piece and final product checks.

Team Oversight and Support

  • Coordinate team efforts to track and meet production quotas, ensure compliance with technical specifications, and address non-compliance issues.
  • Guide the team through the PO (Purchase Order) process and ensure all sign-offs are completed accurately.

Problem Solving

  • Address and resolve design or production challenges while maintaining quality and timelines.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues and implement corrective actions.

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas for improvement within the technical design workflow, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and lead times.

Trend Analysis and Innovation

  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and advancements in design technology.
  • Incorporate relevant innovations into the design and production process.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years in technical design, preferably within a cut-and-sew manufacturing environment.

Problem-Solving Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve design and production challenges efficiently.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong expertise in garment construction, pattern making, and textile properties.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, CAD, and other relevant tools.

Leadership Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead and develop diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration and conflict-resolution skills.
