Job Description
Production Manager
You will direct and manage daily operations of the assigned business unit, overseeing equipment, facilities, and personnel to meet performance goals. You’ll lead and coach both RAW and RTE supervisors, working closely with the Plant Director to drive efficiency and quality.
Primary Duties
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as company policies
Coach and guide supervision to meet production targets and schedules
Clearly communicate production goals and priorities to manufacturing and support teams
Develop and implement cost-saving and continuous improvement ideas
Maintain production and inventory records; prepare weekly/monthly reporting
Manage training, performance evaluations, documentation, and corrective counseling
Monitor efficiencies and control costs
Ensure top-quality production output
Align workforce structure with associate skills and capabilities
Schedule manpower to manage regular and overtime hours effectively
Train supervisory and hourly staff as needed
Ensure a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment
Work with Maintenance on equipment repair, replacement, or overhaul
Follow plant production schedules in coordination with scheduling and customer service
Coordinate with Quality Control and Warehousing to maintain material specs and scheduling
Facilitate communication across departments
Provide feedback to Plant Director to support operational decisions
Work with external vendors and service providers as required
Direct and support supervisors in performance and productivity
Participate in Plant Safety Committee activities
Set plant goals aligned with corporate and customer objectives
Regularly share plant vision and mission; foster engagement with staff and management
Review plant performance and address areas needing improvement with the team
Lead production meetings and communicate updates from management
Observe operations daily to monitor quality, GMP compliance, and waste control
Use KPIs for performance feedback and improvement
Identify equipment needs and recommend upgrades or changes as needed
Maintain high visibility on the plant floor to monitor operations and standards
Serve as backup for Plant Director when needed
Ensure awareness and action on food safety or food quality concerns
Perform tasks required to maintain food safety, quality, SQF, Organic, Gluten-Free and other certifications
Other duties as assigned by senior management
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years in food industry supervisory or managerial role
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Comfortable working in fast-moving production areas with moderate to high noise and temperature fluctuations
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a people-first leadership mindset
Able to foster a culture of ownership, enthusiasm, and pride in the workplace
Ensures safety compliance through training, reporting, hazard correction, and record-keeping
Flexibility to shift priorities at short notice; available 24/7 for emergencies
Ability to work any shift schedule and cultivate a high-performance, results-driven team
